Tackling unemployment
—
In addition to supporting a new generation of entrepreneurs, we have wider community objectives - create employment by supporting sustainable businesses and fostering local regeneration.
Creating employment is a key challenge in our boroughs. In the past few years we have seen a rise in the number of long-term unemployed seeking our services. This is partly due to the difficult job market, and partly to existing socio-economic problems faced by the local population.
With the right support and resources, we can help to dismantle the barriers that keep people out of work.
Each year we help around 300 new business to start up: around 25% of the people involved are previously unemployed.
This work by our charitable arm is estimated to have a social return on investment of over 500%.
